Over the past 18 years, we’ve got good at expeditions.
Really, really good.
We’ve developed a ten-step system that ensures that every I is dotted, every t is crossed, and every students experiences maximum enjoyment. Here’s how we do it:
- 1 – Expedition Launch
After liaising with a link teacher and getting the “go ahead” to launch a new expedition, we confirm the dates and start getting excited!
- 2 – Expedition Presentation
Once the expedition is confirmed, we get a date in the diary for us to come and deliver a presentation at our partner school, explaining to students, parents and teachers what the opportunity is, how it’s going to work.
- 3 – Expedition Team Confirmed
If we’ve done a good enough job at explaining how life changing it’ll be (!), we then start booking students on. We’ll generally have a finite number of places – we find that a close-knit team is more manageable, and have a far more transformational experience than an absolute army!
- 4 – UK 1
The expedition isn’t just an overseas thing. There are two UK based training sessions; where the itinerary is fixed, fundraising is discussed and much planning is completed – this is the first of those. This is a single day held at the school.
- 5 – Regular Team Meetings
The closer the group gets before the actual expedition the better, which is why we insist on regular team meetings to discuss progress and iron our details – we’ll attend three of these during the months before the expedition.
- 6 – UK 2
UK 2 is a weekend residential training, where we’ll walk you through the entire expedition, so you know exactly what to expect. You’ll enjoy some great team building exercises, as the group starts to grow closer together, and we’ll also do a kit check to ensure that everyone’s got what they need.
- 7 – Regular Team Meetings
The team meetings become even more important as time goes on and the trip draws ever closer.
- 8 – Final Preparation Day
Shortly before the trip, we’ll get together for a final prep day, where we’ll do a last minute kit check, ensure everyone’s got the necessary tickets and visas, and cover off any last minute questions.
- 9 – The Expedition Itself
The waiting is over – the expedition is here!
- 10 – Expedition Washup
The washup is a great opportunity to gather together as a team, reminisce on the trip and share photos and videos.
So that’s that – our ten-step process for organising your expedition from beginning to end. The whole process generally takes at least 12-18 months, so if you’d like to talk about your expedition, there’s no time like the present – give us a call now on 01769 309000 or send us an email.
Always happy to help!
